Croup Prognosis

With appropriate medical attention, the prognosis for croup is very good. Most cases of viral croup begin to improve in 3–7 days. In rare cases when croup is caused by a bacterial infection, antibiotic medication generally leads to a full recovery. However, croup that develops into tracheitis or epiglottitis and causes an obstruction in the airway can be life threatening.
