Have Diabetes? Be Plane Smart

Airport Diabetes Air Travel Image Masterfile 2013

If you have diabetes and will be flying soon, it's important to plan ahead. Safeguard your medications and diabetes gear well before you leave for the airport.

Here's how:

Get a letter from your doctor that lists the medications you must keep with you during your flight and explains that your insulin pump should not be exposed to magnetic x-ray equipment, including full-body scanners.

Instead, your pump should be hand-checked by security personnel.
