Scientists at the University of Utah have developed a new type of insulin that activates itself when blood sugar goes up. They found that just one injection could automatically and repeatedly lower blood sugar levels in mice having a type 1 diabetes-like condition.

The researchers say that a "smart" insulin would reduce the dangers that come with inaccurate insulin dosing. A version of the drug for people is being developed. More research is needed.
