Packed with pectin, a soluble fiber that helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels, pears are a healthy base for this easy treat. With orange juice, antioxidant-rich spices like cinnamon and no added sugar this is a healthy dessert!

1 cup Splenda granulated sweetener

1/2 cup orange juice

2 cinnamon sticks

1 bay leaf

2 whole cloves

6 Bosc pears, peeled

Slivered almonds or chopped walnuts for garnish, optional


  1. Boil 3 quarts water combined with Splenda, orange juice, cinnamon, bay leaf and cloves in a large pot. Once dissolved, reduce heat to medium.
  2. Cook pears until tender, about 20 minutes, then remove with a slotted spoon and set aside in a serving bowl.
  3. Boil liquid another 10 minutes to reduce to about 1 cup. Using a strainer to catch the aromatics, pour liquid over pears and serve garnished with slivered almonds or chopped nuts if you like.

Per serving: 129 calories, 1 g protein, 34 g carbohydrates, 6 g fiber, 0.25 g fat, 0.05 g saturated fat, 0 mg cholesterol, 2 mg sodium.
