Packed with pectin, a soluble fiber that helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels, pears are a healthy base for this easy treat. With orange juice, antioxidant-rich spices like cinnamon and no added sugar this is a healthy dessert!
1 cup Splenda granulated sweetener
1/2 cup orange juice
2 cinnamon sticks
1 bay leaf
2 whole cloves
6 Bosc pears, peeled
Slivered almonds or chopped walnuts for garnish, optional
- Boil 3 quarts water combined with Splenda, orange juice, cinnamon, bay leaf and cloves in a large pot. Once dissolved, reduce heat to medium.
- Cook pears until tender, about 20 minutes, then remove with a slotted spoon and set aside in a serving bowl.
- Boil liquid another 10 minutes to reduce to about 1 cup. Using a strainer to catch the aromatics, pour liquid over pears and serve garnished with slivered almonds or chopped nuts if you like.
