Prognosis for Patients with Barrett's Esophagus

Patients who have Barrett's esophagus are at increased risk for developing adenocarcinoma of the esophagus. Although this type of esophageal cancer is relatively rare, recent studies have shown that incidence of the disease is increasing.

Patients who have Barrett's esophagus should talk to their doctor about follow-up treatment. In some cases, regular endoscopy is recommended.
