Kids & High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is on the rise among children, as more and more young people are overweight. But in a study of 14,000 children, doctors at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland found that only one in four with the condition had been properly diagnosed.

The study’s lead author, David Kaelber, M.D., now with Harvard Medical School, says, "In the same way parents ask pediatricians about a child's height or weight, they should ask, 'How is my child's blood pressure?' That will remind the pediatrician to take a closer look and discuss it with the parents."
