Taking at least one of your hypertension drugs before bedtime may lead to lower blood pressure while you sleep and better blood pressure control overall, say Spanish researchers. They compared the effects of taking the drugs either at night or in the morning among chronic kidney disease patients with high blood pressure. Nighttime dosing came out the clear winner.
Researchers say it can cut by two-thirds the risk of cardiovascular problems such as heart attack, stroke, angina and heart failure. If you currently take your pills in the morning, ask your doctor whether making the switch to evening may benefit you.
