Artificial Sweetener Image

Q: Do artificial sweeteners raise blood sugar?

A: No. Sweeteners such as aspartame, sucralose and stevia (touted as "natural" since it comes from a plant) contain no calories and no carbohydrates, so they have no impact on blood sugar.

However, artificial sweeteners can cause reactions, such as headaches or hives, for some. You may want to limit any sweetener to which you’ve had an adverse reaction.
