Causes of Varicocele

A varicocele develops when the valve that regulates blood flow from the veins of the spermatic cord into the main circulatory system becomes damaged or defective. Inefficient blood flow causes enlargement (dilation) of the vein(s) on one side of the scrotum.

Ovarian varicoceles and utero-ovarian varicoceles may occur in women.
